Equipment and activity safety

Plan and supervise work involving operational equipment, vehicles and higher-risk activities.

The service or organisation using equipment remains responsible for defining the operational need and ensuring that users are trained, authorised and working within the applicable procedure.

Vehicle, technical or specialist equipment should not be used merely because a person can access or spawn it. Access permissions, ownership and technical capability are separate from operational authorisation.

Incidents and near misses should be recorded through the competent operational route and referred to HSE where the circumstances raise a regulatory workplace-safety concern.
